The Link between Rumors and a Grapevine #OralCommunication

" Don't spread with your mouth, what your eyes didn't see. "
Rumors, false statement and lies can be found anywhere. Nowadays lies overpowered the truth. We can't denied the reality, in which rumors can be spread easily through any kind of media and information. It could be transmitted through a process of the wheel, the cluster, the chain and free flow. Lies and truth spread quickly thru this process, however we should always spread the truth and positive at all time. Rumors spreads everywhere, in all direction, and so does Grapevine.

Please refer to the article: http://articles-junction.blogspot.com/2013/08/define-grapevine-communication-and-types.html For more info about Grapevine communication. Let's test how you link rumors with Grapevine Communication. Feel free to comment your opinions below!

Debate: Traditional Media vs. New Age Media #EmpowermentTechnologies

Good Day Senior High school Students!
This Discussion of Debate is from the Traditional Media group of Grade 12- A (ABM) Students and this might help you in learning about the Traditional Media and New Age Media. Although this debate group accounts only for the traditional side, there are a few details about New Age Media.

The following discussions are discussed in a debate that took place in The Philippine School, Dubai at Room 305 and ICT Lab of Media Information Literacy Class.;

WEIGHING WHICH HAS GREATER CONTRIBUTION
But not really.
  • 1st. New Age media aka as Digital media
  • Example 1.1 : Example nalang, I will tell what are the forms of new media: Technologies like telephones, computers, virtual world, computer animation, computer installations, social media, internet, online news papers, digital games and etc. and What are the forms of traditional media ? Paintings, sculptures, verbal communicaltion, musical and visual art forms, dances, radios , tvs, legends, chants etc.
  • Example 1.2: The way ng pabibigay namin ng info sa mind map,  using painting, that is traditional media. and where did we get the information? Internet. New age media!  Equal
  • Example 1.3: I’m relying on my phone sa mga sasabihin ko sainyo, use of technology, new age media. and the way ko sabihin sainyo , verbal communication, That’s traditional Media. equal.
  • ilike tv, contributions is both on new media and traditional media, since it uses technology to be updated everytime and is discovered before prehistoric times. equal.
  • Statistically, based on statista.com 2.77 billion people uses social media networks. and 2.50 billion people users uses news papers on a daily basis. +15 billion paintings all over the world. e paano pa yung mga hindi na record na data dati? since we are controlled by the spaniards like yung ni report ni vien na article about prehistory? it Adds up in traditional media.  tapos paano pa yung number of technologies na nadiscover? ang dami. It adds up in new age media. Equal.

New age media or Traditional media. “
  • tapos nung dinefend kami ng controlled media, binara ng new age media using phone “Therese: ano hawak mo? Cellphone. Ano gamit mo pang search? Google. Controlled o hindi? Hindi. New age media!” That’s right! But not really.
  • kasi yun yung nakikita namin disadvantage ng new age media. Although New media gives you a lot of information. more than you could think of.  Informations are right but not really.  it is not always a reliable source to get news from.  pano ko nasabe?
  • because everyone can be posting wrong news just for fun and grabbing attention.
  • Example 1 wrong news: like wikipedias, it can be edited by anyone so it might be based on their personal opinion and not from facts. Also
  • Example 2 : like yung nag post na kaya bumaba yung bigay ng america satin  is because nag mumura si duterte. It’s from his/her own opinion and not from facts. plus he/she’s grabbing attention since sikat talaga si duterte.

  • BAWI: Kaya di ko din alam yung pinag sasabe ko kasi sa social media at internet ko lang nabasa and yung pag dedecode ko nun might be wrong since di nga reliable &  it’s not from the publisher itself. ano bang nais nyang mareceive ng decoder?
  • Example 3. There is not always a publisher to check whether the information written is wrong or right unlike newspaper, TVs, or radio there is always an editor and publisher that insures that information published to the audience is right.
  • Example 4. sabi “Therese: sa new age media kapag tinanong mo yung tao na Kumain ka na ba , that means may gusto nako sayo” , That’s right but not really. given your own example.
  • it is not a reliable source of information because what if yung receiver ng message decodes the message as it is. kung kumain na ba talaga siya. but what you want the receiver to decode is gusto mo siya.
  • vice versa, what if gusto mong idecode ng receiver mo is the message as it is.
  • main question to be answered is: yun nga one disadvantage of new media is not always a reliable source of information. How would you adress to that? How would you correct or makeup this weakness?

Defense:
started during historic times in the 21st century. Traditional  media started during prehistoric times
-2nd. meaning, mas nauna kame. Till now may traditional media padin. Let us not weigh kung sinong maraming naitulong kasi kung susumahin mo, kayo may naiutulong kayo from historic times hanggang ngayon. kami? Since prehistoric times hanggang ngayon.
-4th.Plus “All things being equal” if you’re gonna use the major assumption in economics of ceteris paribus.
Supporting Details:
-3rdsome of traditional media forms like news papers and radios may not be used by most of the people t oday. But other forms like paintings, verbal communications , dancing and etc are still used by most of the people since then till now.
-5th. If we’re gonna use the major assumption in economics“ Ceteris paribus” a  latin phrase means “all things being equal” and weigh which is greater, no one will win. That is the two variables beings discussed.
moving on. but if you want examples im gonna give you more examples na mas malalim kung bakit siya equal.

same thing to choosing.
CHOOSING
Defense:
-First things first we don’t have to let participants of each sides choose which side should they use/ or what they want to use. 1st, it doesnt add up to your side. 2nd, it doesn’t make sense

FESTIVAL VS. SOCIAL MEDIA
“ That’s right! But not really.
Defense
-On far to far basis, yes that’s right talaga mas mabilis makukuha ng receiver yung message kasE isang text, isang tawag mo lang, nareceive nya na agad yung message, but not really.
-Although social media has connected us with people all over the world, but this has affected our face to face communication.
Supporting details
-Now a days, people are preferring communicating through social media rather than face to face and this have increased the online relationships
-Wherever you go now, you can realize how people are sitting together physically, but using their smart -phones communicating with others, so eventually they are mentally not together.
-This will affect our lives in a way or another, for instance, in business life if you will not be able and not have the experience to communicate with employers and consumers and this will obviously affect your job. although may sinasabi tayong networking business what about other jobs? nagiisa lang ang networking type of business paano yung iba?

That's on our defense but the debate is kaya namin palaging sinasabing "THAT'S RIGHT, BUT NOT REALLY!"
- kasi yun ang nakikita naming disadvantage ng new age media. Although new age media gives you a lot of information more than you could think of. Informations are right, but nor really. It is not always a reliable source of information.

REAL DEBATE QUESTIONS:
-one disadvantage of new media is not always a reliable source of information. How would you adress to that? How would you correct or makeup this weakness?

-An advantage of traditional media is it played a great role during the freedom of struggle , such as news papers. With reference to the 2 articles discussed last last meeting , if you read the article sa print media: A tradition of freedom, it reveals that Newspapers  had a lot of contributions because ito yung naging way para mareach yung mga people na walang alam about govt and/ or  controlled by the government one disadvantage of new media is a source of cyber bullying. pano ko nasabe? because cyber bullying also known as online bullying is a form of bullying or harassment using electronic means. so Its under new age media. how would you adress to that? By “that”,  what i mean is the disadvantage of your side which is a source of cyber bullying. How would you correct or makeup this weakness?

-You may have heard many stories from your parents or grand parents about the about kings and queens who ruled the country several years ago. Similarly there are stories about festivals and rituals and how to become good human beings. traditional media ,a face to face communication basis/ form of verbal communication, which develops bond in the family/friends and/or lovedones. Since it is a face to face communication basis , traditional media also refers to physical contacts. in traditional media, you get to hug a person to send a message. In new age media, You gets to type your stories and sent it to the person and you get to type *sendhugs* *virtualhugs* *kisses*. One disadvantage of new media is it affects face to face communication since it is technology based like internets and smartphones. How would you adress to that? How would you correct or makeup this weakness?

-Now a days through the social media you can know details about a person just by entering their account in any application. Seeing pictures where he/she has went, what have they done, and etc. You can't anymore have privacy unlike before in traditional media you are free to do anything and have your own life, But with new age media, you sometimes feel like you have to share it with others.Sinxe, your personal details are recorded so by that it hacked our lives and privacy in some ways. One disadvantage of New age media is it has hacked our lives and privacy. How would you adress to that? How would you correct or makeup this weaknesses?

-the example given by eran last meeting that even today you will find villages where there is no proper electricity. People in such places might not be able to access the internet. Similarly, illiterate people will not be able to properly use technology. with refence to this example, One disadvantage of New age media is that it can’t reach ALL people, and NOT ALL people know how to properly use technology. How would you adress to that? How would you correct or makeup this weaknesses?

-An advantage of traditional media is that it is a less expensive medium such as there are free newspapers in the metro,  there are cheap papers and cheap pens to make a letter, and you can always find alternative & less expensive coloring materials in painting. One disadvantage that we found in New Age media is that it is a more expensive medium. How would you adress to that? How would you correct or makeup this weaknesses?

Controlled Media or Free Point Media? #EmpowermentTechnologies

The world we live in right now is indeed terrifying, but can you imagine not being totally informed on the true calamities your own country is facing? That’s what you call “Controlled Media”.  North Korea, Iran, China, Vietnam and Saudi Arabia is just a few examples of those counrty that dont fully know what’s really happening in their own land. Social media platform such as Facebook, Twitter, Instagram is not even allowed in some country to make sure they dont hidden from the truth. Governments & their local officers make sure that they recieve either a edited or totally different news from what’s really happening, one of the reason that they control media in those places is that, they dont want thier people to rebel against them, the logic is how would their people rebel against them when they don’t  even know the real status of their country?

On the other hand, most country is fully aware of how bad or good thier land is doing. And that’s what you call “Free Point Media”. Philippines and America is a just a few example of those country. People living in a free point media country is very opinionated, perhaps seeing your country go down the slump, open your eyes on how bad humanity has gotted in the past few years.

So which one do do you prefer? Be comforted with lies, or be scared with the truth?

Venn Diagram of Media Literacy and Information Literacy #OralCommunication

Good day, Senior High school Students!

Before discussing about Media and Information Literacy, let's have an analysis of it's terms. Here's a Venn diagram that shows similarities and differences of Media Literacy and Information Literacy.

Media literacy is the ability to access, analyze and create media and media messages. It is about the consumption of information using communication tools for human interaction, Its main focus is institutional, media and audience effect of media messages. On the other hand, Information Literacy is the ability to recognize information when needed and use it efficiently. It is about utilizing the efficiency of Information and its main focus is the textual analysis itself.  Both Media Literacy and Information literacy spreads information around the people in different types of media. It keeps individuals up-to-date relevant and timely information allowing for proper organization enabling them  to interpret and make informed judgments.Groups and individuals for the grant discernment for what is considered to be valid information through logical and factual scanning. Last but not the least, Media and Information Literacy is the essential competencies and skills that allow citizens to engage with media and other information providers effectively and develop critical thinking and lifelong learning skills and socialize and become active citizens (UNESCO, MIL Curriculum for teachers)
